L.S. Alexander Gumby
L.S. Alexander Gumby, who hosted a salon for intellectual and creative collaboration in the 1920s, owned a rare book collection and studio at 2144 Fifth Avenue between 131st and 132nd streets in Harlem. This bookplate reflects his reputation as an archivist and bibliophile. The L.S. Alexander Gumby Collection also includes copies of his correspondence with the United States Library of Congress, with whom he copyrighted the bookplate in 1927.
